Hands off our efficiency standards!
Coalition leader Peter Dutton is promising to sabotage the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) if elected.
This is the policy to cap pollution on cars that thousands of Greenpeace activists campaigned for and won last year. The efficiency standard will prevent 80 million tonnes of pollution from entering our atmosphere in the next 10 years, while giving everyone greater access to more clean vehicles.
Dutton plans to remove the very thing that makes the NVES an effective policy—penalties for car importers insistent on dumping their most polluting cars in Australia. This is a capitulation to the petrol car lobby at the expense of Australian drivers and businesses.
We can’t let that happen. Send a quick pre-written email now to key politicians in the Coalition and their mates in the car lobby to help show this latest election promise is total dud.
